The Interactive Effect of Organizational Politics in the Justice, Organizational Support and Job Satisfaction Relationships

    Get PDF
The study of the antecedents of job satisfaction (JS) is important because of the strategic role JS plays in organizational productivity. Three pervasive perceptions of work environment, ganizational politics(OP), organizational support (POS) and justice (PJC) predict JS and affect individual’s decision in an exchange process. Joint effects of these variables have been theorized, but never tested. This study tested the interactive role of OP when POS, PJC and JS are contained in the same model. The study utilized 400 participants drawn from organizations in Nigeria. The results of the hierarchical multiple regression analyses, indicate that PJC and POS have direct effects on JS, while OP interacts with PJC to predict JS. The study highlights the importance of including OP, POS, and the PJC in JS model

Employee silence behaviour is a major impediment in organisations' attempt to leverage on the stock of knowledge in its diverse workforce. In order to contribute to the nnderstanding ofthis concept, Dirnitras and Vakola tested a silence behaviour model in which silence climate was fmmd to affect the enactment of employees silence behaviour. The model tested in this study improved on this by accmmt:ing for the moderating role of selfesteem and locus of control and also indicating silence behaviour as both antecedent and outcome of work attitudes. Results obtained justify the reconunended expansion. Reconunendations are to always accmmt for individual differences in silence behaviour model and apply system management in the application of the model

This study examines the relationship between fair treatment and organizational identification in some selected construction firms in Port Harcourt. Two null hypotheses were drawn from the measures of organizational identification. A sample size of 186 was drawn using the Krejcie and Morgan 1970 table, while the population allocation was done using the Bowley’s population allocation formula. Spearman’s rank correction coefficient was used for analyzing the null hypotheses, while the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was used as the statistical tool at 5% level of significance. All the null hypotheses were rejected; hence there is a significant relationship between fair treatment and organizational identification. It was therefore recommended that management of the construction firm should formulate and implement policies that will encourage fair treatment for all workers and ensure that benefits are distributed fairly so as to enhance employees’ sense of belongingness and commitment, and employees’ option should be heard and their well being should be considered by the firm in decision making. The study was carried out to determine devastating impacts of flood disaster among rural households in Benue State, Nigeria. Questionnaire was used to collect data from a sample of 145 respondents used for the study. Data collected for the study were analyzed using mean score. Findings indicated that the major causes of flood disaster were poor level of public awareness campaign on flood hazard (x –=2.00), increased impermeability due to urbanization (x –=2.00), overflowing dams (x –=2.00), building on water ways and drainage channels (x –=2.00), flood plain being occupied by human settlement and economic activities (x –=1.41), blockage of flood path with sediment deposit (x –=1.31) and increase in rainfall (x –=1.30). Rendering of rural dwellers homeless (x –=2.47), fills homes with dirty water and refuse (x –=2.43), blockage of road networks (x –=2.42), disruption of economic activities (x –=2.40), destruction of farmlands (x –=2.40), increase in household food insecurity (x –=2.35), destruction of crops and livestock (x –=2.30), damages stored farm produce (x –=2.24) and loss of lives and property (x –=2.12) were effects of flood disaster on rural households. Based on the findings of the study, there arises the need for government at all levels and non-governmental organizations to intensify efforts in creation of awareness for people living in flood prone areas to relocate to a safer place in order to avoid loss of life and disruption of economic activities

Use-of-Dashboard: A Vital Moderator of Sales Force Competence Management and Marketing Performance Relationship

    Get PDF
Prior research has not been clear on the role the use-of-dashboard plays in moderating the relationship between competence management and a firm’s corporate performance, notwithstanding that such a moderating effect is conceptually quite plausible. This study, empirically examined the role of use-of-dashboard as a moderator in the sales force competence management – marketing performance relationship. By using Pearson partial correlation test, the study found evidence that supports the moderating effect of use-of-dashboard on the strength of the relationship between sales force competence management and marketing performance. The paper therefore, recommends that firms wishing to fully harness the positive influence of sales force competence management on marketing performance should consider the use-of-dashboard as a veritable contextual option. This work was carried out to investigate the accumulation profile of heavy metals in three fish species namely; Albula vulpe, Clarias gariepinus and Tilapia zilli. The maximum mean concentration, 53.95 mg/kg was recorded for Mn in the liver. Cd, Cr and Pb, measured relatively lower concentrations from as low as 0.0 mg/kg, <0.001 mg/kg. The least detectable concentration, 0.0 mg/kg was measured for Cd in gills, Ni in liver and Pb in liver of Albula vulpe. The concentration of Mn measured in all the fish samples exceeded the WHO limit of 0.5 mg/L in drinking water. All the concentrations measured for Pb, were above the FAO limit of 0.5 mg/kg except at a few locations where the concentrations were 0.0, 0.3 mg/kg, measured in gills of Albula vulpe and liver of Clarias gariepinus repectively. The mean of the total concentration of each metal in all the samples indicate that the concentrations of the heavy metals in the samples are generally well above the respective recommended guidelines. Keywords: Albula vulpe, Clarias gariepinus, Heavy metals, Plateau State, Tilapia zill

Background: Coffee has a number of bioactive compounds that have beneficial effects on human health in general and more importantly is the fact that coffee consumption has positive impact on the liver function. The present study investigated the effect of coffee consumption on liver enzymes: alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total bilirubin (TB) and conjugated bilirubin (CB) levels among student in Nnewi. Methods: A total of twenty-five (25) apparently healthy participants aged between 18 and 30 years which were randomly recruited from College of Health Sciences’ students to serve as both test and control group. Each participant was advised to abstain from coffee and similar beverages for a period of three weeks prior to the commencement of the study. Subsequently, in addition to their normal diet, each of the subjects was given 2 gm of coffee dissolved in 150 ml of hot water in which 50 mg of non-dairy creamer was added before breakfast daily for 28 consecutive days. 6 ml each of baseline and test samples (after an overnight fast) were collected at day 0 and 29 respectively from each participant. Liver enzymes such as ALT, AST, and ALP activity as well as TB and CB levels was determined using standard laboratory methods. Results: This showed significant reductions in the mean serum AST and ALT activity, TB and unconjugated bilirubin (UB) levels with no significant alterations in the mean ALP activity and CB level in participants studied after short-term coffee consumption. Conclusions: This study revealed the hepatoprotective effect of coffee intake at short term basis
